Giannis-Antetokounmpo

During the offseason, the Miami Heat always seem to be at the forefront of trade speculation for top players, and 2026 is no different.

Of course, all attention are on Milwaukee Bucks great Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer, as a deal appears likely. However, the Bucks will not wait indefinitely for an agreement. They have set a flexible deadline of NBA Draft night for a Giannis trade, putting other potential suitors on notice.

However, there is no guarantee that Giannis will be traded. Heat insider Ira Winderman recently told Miami to reconsider any possible Antetokounmpo deal, as well as to develop their draft strategy with that in mind, according to the Sun Sentinel.

“Basically, it will be up to the Heat to either sweep the Bucks away with an offer, or to pursue alternative plans, as you indicate,” Winderman said. “The issue would be the Heat then losing the ability to use the No. 13 selection next month to select for the Bucks. The Heat cannot afford to select a player that they believe the Bucks would desire, only for the Bucks to move on to another trade package elsewhere down the road. In other words, no repetition of selecting Shabazz Napier in the 2014 first round to appease LeBron James, only for LeBron to walk in free agency weeks later. ”

The Heat have been rumored to be interested in trading for Antetokounmpo for several years, but the specifics of that package remain unclear. Tyler Herro would almost certainly be included in the deal, together with some combination of Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr. , Andrew Wiggins, Kel’el Ware, other players, and picks.

There is no disputing that Antetokounmpo would be a fantastic addition to Miami, forming one of the NBA’s top defenses alongside Bam Adebayo in the front court. However, doubts about Giannis’ longevity and availability in recent years have made his trading market difficult for clubs attempting to go all-in for a title in a limited time frame.
