The LSU Tigers missed out on edge rusher Anthony Sweeney, who announced his commitment to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on April 13. According to Rivals Industry Rankings, he is a five-star prospect, the No. 3 EDGE, and the No. 21 player in the country, measuring 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds.
The Baltimore, Maryland native chose Texas Tech over LSU, the South Carolina Gamecocks, Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Penn State Nittany Lions.
However, not all teams are ready to quit up. The pass rusher told Rivals’ Chad Simmons that the Tigers are attempting to schedule an official visit to campus. He mentioned a personal relationship he has with LSU defensive line coach Sterling Lucas.
While acknowledging that he hasn’t decided whether to travel to Baton Rouge, Sweeney told Simmons that an official visit would almost certainly not result in a flip.
I may take other official visits, but that has yet to be determined, he explained. I am still considering it. Regardless of whether I make visits or not, it will be incredibly difficult for any institution to persuade me. Personally, I believe it is impossible.
Sweeney will almost certainly attract attention, despite the fact that he appears to be putting the kibosh on any flip speculations. In addition to his high ratings, he recorded 34 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 3. 5 sacks last season for Our Lady of Good Counsel.
LSU’s tenacity, however, is not unexpected as Lane Kiffin and his staff attempt to strengthen their 2027 recruiting class. They currently have five pledges, putting them fourth in the SEC and tenth across the country.
With a formal visit to Lubbock on June 5, the Red Raiders have another chance to stand out from the Tigers.
