Long before they became one of the NFL’s most recognizable couples, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and his wife, Christen Goff, started their relationship in a surprisingly ordinary way—through a dating app.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Christen Goff shared details about how she first met the Lions star on the exclusive dating platform Raya in 2019 while he was still playing for the Los Angeles Rams.
“It was on a dating app (Raya),” Christen explained. “Neither of us was taking it too seriously. You never really think you’re going to meet someone on a dating app, but we did. We hit it off right from the start, and here we are almost eight years later.”
Christen Goff Had No Idea Jared Goff Was the Rams’ Quarterback
Despite living in Los Angeles at the time, Christen admitted she did not realize Jared was the starting quarterback for the Rams when they first connected online.
“I knew he was a football player, and he thinks I’m lying when I say this, but I really didn’t know who he was,” Christen said.
She explained that the Rams had only recently returned to Los Angeles and had not yet become a major part of the city’s sports culture. Growing up in a hockey-focused family also meant she paid little attention to football.
“I actually grew up a hockey girl. My brother played hockey, so I wasn’t paying as much attention to football then. Now it’s my whole world,” she added.
At the time, Christen was focused on rebuilding her life after a previous relationship and wasn’t actively looking for romance. However, Jared reportedly spent weeks pursuing her before she agreed to go on a date. That decision ultimately changed both of their lives.
From Dating to Marriage: Jared and Christen Goff’s Journey
After dating for three years, Jared proposed to Christen in 2022 while leading the Detroit Lions. The couple tied the knot in June 2024 during a lavish wedding ceremony in California.
Their relationship has continued to grow alongside Jared’s NFL career, and the pair welcomed their daughter, Romy Goff, in 2025.
Jared and Christen Goff Split Time Between Michigan and California
Both Jared and Christen have deep roots in California. Jared, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, was born and raised in Novato, California, while Christen is also a California native.
However, Jared’s trade to the Detroit Lions in 2021 brought a major change to their lives. During the NFL season, the couple resides in Michigan, where Jared leads Detroit’s offense.
Today, the Goffs balance life between homes in Michigan and California, managing both family responsibilities and the demands of an NFL career while raising their young daughter.
