Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff received an unexpected challenge from popular streamer IShowSpeed during Team USA’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium.
The highly anticipated tournament opener attracted a star-studded crowd that included celebrities, athletes, and social media personalities. Among those in attendance was Goff, the Lions’ franchise quarterback and California native, who watched the United States secure a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay.
During the match, Goff shared a VIP luxury suite with internet sensation Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed. While livestreaming from the stadium, Speed connected with his father via FaceTime and seized the opportunity to introduce him to the Detroit Lions star.
Speed’s father had one simple request for Goff: bring a championship to Detroit.
“He is from Detroit, I am from Detroit, we do want a championship, man,” IShowSpeed told Goff, echoing his father’s wish for the Lions to finally capture a Super Bowl title.
The interaction quickly caught attention online, highlighting the growing expectations surrounding Detroit entering the 2026 NFL season.
Goff later asked Speed whether he planned to attend a Lions game this season, and the popular content creator enthusiastically agreed.
NFL Stars Join Jared Goff at World Cup Match
Goff was not the only NFL player enjoying Team USA’s World Cup opener. Several notable football stars were also present in the luxury suite, including Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.
The group witnessed Team USA’s dominant performance, giving American soccer fans plenty of reasons to celebrate as the World Cup got underway.
Jared Goff Emerging as an NFL MVP Candidate
As excitement builds around Detroit’s upcoming season, Goff is also drawing attention as a potential NFL MVP contender.
Since arriving in Detroit following the blockbuster trade from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, the veteran quarterback has consistently delivered elite production. Goff has surpassed 4,400 passing yards in each of the past four seasons while providing stability and leadership for the Lions offense.
Although he has yet to win the NFL MVP Award, he came close after receiving significant consideration during the 2024 campaign.
NFL analyst Dan Parr recently identified Goff as one of the quarterbacks capable of making a serious MVP run in 2026.
“His game isn’t built on flashy highlights, but he consistently delivers elite-level production,” Parr noted. “His MVP chances will largely depend on how far the Lions go, and Detroit has a favorable schedule that could help them bounce back.”
Why the Detroit Lions Are Considered a Super Bowl Dark Horse
The optimism surrounding Detroit extends beyond individual awards.
Despite missing the playoffs last season, several analysts believe the Lions could emerge as one of the NFL’s biggest surprise contenders in 2026. A more manageable schedule, improvements along the offensive line, and the return of key injured contributors have fueled confidence in Dan Campbell’s squad.
If Goff continues playing at a Pro Bowl level and remains in the MVP conversation, Detroit could position itself as a legitimate Super Bowl threat.
For Lions fans—and even IShowSpeed—the goal is clear: end the franchise’s championship drought and bring the Lombardi Trophy to Detroit.
