The Detroit Lions may have a renewed path toward landing a true superstar pass rusher, as new reports suggest that Las Vegas Raiders edge defender Maxx Crosby could once again become a realistic trade candidate heading into the summer or the 2026 NFL trade deadline.
The Lions have already missed out on several opportunities to acquire elite edge talent this offseason, but Crosby’s situation is now drawing fresh attention around the league.
Raiders’ Position on Maxx Crosby Not Fully Closed
While there has been no official indication that the Raiders are actively shopping Crosby, recent reporting from Las Vegas suggests the team has not completely shut the door on the idea of a future deal.
“There is still enormous interest in the Raiders’ superstar,” Hondo Carpenter of ON SI wrote on June 15. “That doesn’t mean a deal is imminent, or that the team is shopping him, or that he is asking to be moved. It is simply the reality that, with the interest there to the extent it is, it makes it a viable potential subject.”
Crosby was previously linked to a major trade scenario earlier in the offseason, including a reported framework that would have sent him to the Baltimore Ravens for draft capital before concerns over a failed physical reportedly halted the deal.
Why the Lions Are Being Linked to Maxx Crosby
Detroit has consistently been mentioned as a logical landing spot for an elite edge rusher due to its strong roster and clear need opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently pointed out that the Lions have arguably been one of the biggest “losers” of recent edge-rusher movement across the NFL, noting the team’s ongoing need for a second high-end pass rusher.
Barnwell highlighted Detroit as a team that could benefit significantly from a swing-for-the-fences move, saying the Lions have long lacked a consistent complementary star alongside Hutchinson, especially when injuries have impacted the defensive front.
Maxx Crosby’s Value and Contract Situation
A potential trade for Crosby would come at a steep cost, likely requiring at least a first-round pick along with additional draft compensation.
However, league expectations suggest the Raiders would be unlikely to receive the originally rumored package of two first-round selections, especially after earlier trade discussions reportedly fell through.
Crosby remains one of the league’s most productive edge defenders despite recent injury concerns. According to Pro Football Focus rankings, he graded among the top pass rushers in the NFL from 2021 to 2023, dropped in 2024 due to missed time, and rebounded in 2025 with a strong top-20 performance.
A five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Crosby is still viewed as an impact player, though durability and long-term value remain key discussion points.
What a Trade Would Mean for Detroit
Crosby is currently under contract through 2029 after signing a major extension worth over $100 million, meaning any acquiring team would be committing significant long-term financial and draft capital resources.
For the Lions, a trade for Crosby would signal a win-now approach, maximizing the current core led by Hutchinson and an improving roster built by general manager Brad Holmes.
