Pittsburgh has added two wide receivers to its roster before Sunday’s kickoff, with Ben Skowronek questionable going into the Steelers’ Week 8 encounter against the Cleveland Browns and Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr. still on injured reserve.
The team announced Saturday afternoon that wide receiver Brandon Johnson has been promoted and wide receiver Brandon Smith has been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Johnson will go back to the practice squad after the contest. However, the Steelers now have an open position on their practice team after signing Smith.
Smith, who has already been promoted for three Steelers games this season, couldn’t get back on the active/inactive roster without getting signed. Against the New Orleans Saints last week, he had two receptions for 24 yards, which was his first of the season.
Sunday’s game will be Johnson’s third and final rise before he must also be signed, after having been promoted twice this season. This season, he hasn’t yet caught a fish.
