Ohio’s Cleveland The highest-paid player in the NFL is now Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who only hours before the team takes the field against the Browns on Sunday.
Prescott and the Cowboys reached an agreement on a four-year contract for $240 million, including $231 million guaranteed, on Sunday moments before kickoff in Cleveland.
Prescott will be the highest-paid player in the NFL in terms of average income thanks to his $60 million annual salary. Furthermore, with $231 million completely guaranteed, he has the highest guaranteed salary of any NFL player, barely surpassing Deshaun Watson’s $230 million.
Prescott’s contract status was a major concern for the Cowboys as he entered the final season of a four-year, $160 million contract.
Just before the season began, the Cowboys were able to secure the long-term extension of another top player, who is now named Josh Smith. Star receiver CeeDee Lamb, who missed almost all of training camp, was signed by Dallas to a four-year, $134 million contract.
For the Cowboys, Prescott just finished his third Pro Bowl campaign. Prescott finished 2023 as the NFL’s top passer with 410) completions and 36 touchdown passes, completing 69.5% of his throws for 4,516 yards.
