Sitting at 3-3, the Cowboys haven’t dominated the NFC East as expected. However, they remain in playoff contention, and with Dak Prescott recently receiving a record-breaking extension, there’s motivation to make a playoff push.
If the Cowboys choose to buy at the deadline, upgrading at wide receiver should be a priority. Aside from star CeeDee Lamb, Prescott lacks quality targets, limiting the offense’s explosiveness.
One interesting trade target is Tennessee Titans veteran and three-time first-team All-Pro, DeAndre Hopkins. Criss Partee of FanSided urged the Cowboys to pursue Hopkins.
“Adding Hopkins to a group that includes CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Tolbert, and Brandin Cooks (when healthy) would relieve some pressure on Dak Prescott,” Partee stated. “Given the team’s slow start and lack of offensive cohesion, Hopkins could only improve things.”
Hopkins, 32, hasn’t matched his past Pro Bowl form in 2024. However, it’s hard to solely blame him, as Tennessee’s offense, led by Will Levis, has struggled.
Though Hopkins’ $18.3 million cap hit in 2024 is high, he’ll be a free agent at the season’s end. This could make a trade financially feasible, especially if the Titans cover some salary for a better draft pick.
Would Hopkins make Dallas immediate Super Bowl contenders? Maybe not, but if the Cowboys believe one more elite receiver could get them close, the trade might be worth it.
