To David Beckham’s pleasure, Salford City secured their place in the League Two play-off final with an extra-time victory over Grimsby Town.

After defeating Grimsby Town 4-3 overall, Salford City, which has been in League Two since 2019, now has a chance to move into League One.

The Ammies would have been sure of winning after their 2-1 away leg victory, but they were compelled to play overtime. Kallum Cesay scored in the 117th minute to tie the game at 2-2 on the day and 4-3 overall, despite the fact that it seemed penalties would determine who Notts County’s last opponents would be.

To the great joy of David Beckham, the co-owner of Salford City, who gave his opinion following the game, the outcome was favorable.

On Instagram, Beckham wrote, “Wow… great result. ” Having watched the game from home, the former Manchester United midfielder also stated, “Bring on Wembley. “

Notts County must be brought the game by Salford City.

The previous time Salford City suffered a loss at the hands of Notts County was in September 2023, when the two teams faced each other for the first time since 2015, with a score of 2-0. The Ammies have won both games this season 2-1, albeit the most recent contest in April saw all three goals scored after the 90th minute.

For 90 minutes, Karl Robinson’s team cannot afford to take a backseat and absorb the strain. Because the Wembley pitch is just too vast for that, City needs to start on the front foot.

They should not be expecting Matty Young to perform a miracle, as he has done so frequently, as that may involve searching for more possession or moving the ball quickly from the back to the front.

Following two outstanding loan periods, Young appears prepared to leave Salford City this summer. The goalkeeper, who has played well in his most recent tenure away from Sunderland, is thought to be on the radar of MK Dons and Cardiff City.

Salford City’s not-so-secret weapon

Despite having a less than stellar year wearing red, Fabio Borini’s transfer to Salford City would have surprised many, but he will undoubtedly make a difference against Notts County.

Borini has only made one start for Salford City, and he has just two assists and four goals to his name. However, this is Fabio Borini, lest we forget.

He has represented teams such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Roma, and AC Milan. Regardless of his age, he doesn’t belong in League Two.

Before making a difference if he enters the field, Borini will lead from the bench and do anything he can to motivate Salford. In 2014, the Italian scored at Wembley during Sunderland’s League Cup final match against Manchester City, but the team would ultimately lose 3-1.

In the play-off final, Borini and the Ammies will be hoping for a change in fortune.
