Defensively, the Detroit Lions have had a strong start to the season. However, some people still identify flaws that could cause serious issues down the road.

Even though they are still getting along, Detroit is revamped secondary has performed admirably thus far. With three touchdowns given up through the air, the Lions’ pass defense (216.7 yards allowed per game) ranks 14th in the league through three weeks of play.

According to at least one observer, the yardage figure is sufficient to make an addition seem attractive.

According to Bleacher Report’s analysis of each team’s requirements going into Week 4, the Lions should acquire Buffalo Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam right away.

According to Bleacher Report’s analysis of each team’s requirements going into Week 4, the Lions should acquire Buffalo Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam right away.

“The Lions’ cornerback situation has been problematic since the previous season, and it continues to be one of the team’s worst flaws. Elam was included as a trade candidate by B/R’s Kristopher Knox in this week’s NFL Trade Block Big Board piece.

“The company may not be expecting a proven commodity in the third-year pro, but that is mostly because he is been lagging behind Christian Benford. The first-round selection in 2022 has a lot of talent that might help him immediately and in the long run at cornerback.”

Elam, who Buffalo selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has had a sluggish start to his career, recording 56 tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defensed in just two years of play. An ankle injury in 2023 prevented him from continuing, but he also lost the coaching staff’s favor with Buffalo. Elam does have two interceptions in the postseason to his credit.

Elam may definitely receive a fresh start from the Lions, but it is questionable if he would

Dan Campbell was inspired by the Arizona Cardinals’ defensive performance.

Given that their secondary has performed admirably thus far this season, the Lions may not feel particularly pressured to make a deal at this time. After an incredible game in Arizona, Campbell was inspired by what he witnessed on the field against a formidable opponent.

We were able to win the game thanks to the defense’s solid mentality. We outran them 188 to 77 in the run fight. defense only let up 13 points, 1–9 on third down. Just four explosive (plays) and two abrupt transition stops. I think Carlton Davis and Kirby (Joseph) played really, really well.(DJ) Reader, (Aidan) Hutchinson (played nicely). The reader is the force there. As we all know, Hutchinson is unyielding, and (Brian) Branch had several plays there.” The secondary produces three of the five players that Campbell singled out for praise for the defensive effort, demonstrating the group’s progress. In a more direct compliment to the secondary, Campbell made an appearance on 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday. The secondary in Detroit appears to be playing well. Even if it is still proposed, a notable cornerback addition does not feel extremely necessary, unless there is a serious long-term injury.
