In her latest podcast episode, Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, discussed the negative aspects of fame, particularly dealing with online trolls and how their comments have affected her emotionally.
Kelly’s honest and unfiltered social media presence is generally well-received, but it sometimes leads to her words being misinterpreted.
For example, Kelly recently mentioned she disliked “green bean casserole,” which somehow became a headline suggesting she dislikes holidays. Incidents like this have repeatedly happened, prompting Kelly to tearfully address how hurtful it is to experience online hate.
“If you’re listening and you’re one of those people leaving hateful comments on Instagram… just stop. It’s hurtful, and you never know how your words can affect someone. So please, stop.”
Kelly admitted her tears stemmed from feeling helpless against the trolls. She also shared that she never tells Matthew or others about the hate she encounters.
“I don’t tell my husband or anyone, like ‘look what someone said…’ It feels isolating, and I feel like no one supports me. I try to handle it alone, but it doesn’t work.”
However, in 2025, Kelly is choosing to change this. The “Morning After” podcast host shared that one of her New Year’s resolutions is to focus only on the opinions of people who truly matter to her.
“It’s terrifying to raise four girls in a world where strangers’ opinions carry weight. My resolution is to remind myself daily that only the opinions of those I love matter… I want to quit social media so badly. It’s starting to affect my mental health.”
Kelly’s experience highlights the darker side of social media. Without limits, negativity can overshadow positive moments. She is determined to prevent this from happening.
