With the 2025 head coaching searches underway, Dan Campbell strongly endorsed Aaron Glenn, emphasizing why he deserves a head coaching role.
As the NFL coaching carousel spins, six teams are currently searching for new head coaches. The Bears, Jaguars, Saints, and Jets have requested interviews with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Meanwhile, the Patriots have not yet expressed interest, and the Raiders just parted ways with their coach within the past day.
This marks the fourth consecutive offseason where Glenn has drawn attention from multiple NFL teams. In 2022, he interviewed with the Broncos and Saints. The following year, he spoke with the Colts and Cardinals. In 2024, Glenn met with the Commanders, Falcons, Chargers, and Titans.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell didn’t mince words during his bye week press conference, stating every team should be pursuing Glenn.
“Aaron Glenn is as good a coach as you’ll find; he’s an even better human being,” Campbell said passionately. “If nobody wants him, I’ll take him again. It’s ridiculous that he hasn’t been hired yet. He understands all aspects of the game—offense, defense, special teams—and knows how to inspire and motivate players. He’s the complete package.”
Campbell also praised offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, expressing confidence in both coordinators’ readiness for head coaching positions.
“Their work speaks for itself,” Campbell explained. “They’re smart, hardworking, strategic, and exceptional communicators. I’ve tried to prepare them for the next step, and I believe they’re ready for it. They’re asking the right questions and have proven they’re more than capable.”
Last year, Glenn and Johnson had to balance preparing for head coaching interviews while also game-planning for the playoffs. This season, with the Lions securing a first-round bye as the NFC’s No. 1 seed, both coordinators have more time to focus on their interview preparations.
“That extra time makes a big difference,” Campbell noted. “Last year, it was impossible to juggle everything without a bye. This time, they can focus on interviews, study rosters, and prepare properly while still fulfilling their team obligations.”
With the added preparation time, Campbell’s endorsement, and ties to both the Saints and Jets, Glenn has a prime opportunity to elevate his career this offseason.
