David Montgomery, the Detroit Lions’ running back, is expected to make his return to the field against the Washington Commanders after being listed as a full participant in Tuesday’s practice. Montgomery, who has been recovering from a knee injury sustained in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills, expressed confidence in his readiness for the game, stating, “I wouldn’t be out there if I wasn’t ready. So I’m confident I’m ready to go.” Initially, the team feared Montgomery’s season might be over, but after receiving encouraging second opinions, he now has the opportunity to return. Lions head coach Dan Campbell also indicated that Montgomery could be back for Saturday’s game, and his full participation in practice is a promising sign for his availability. Before the injury, Montgomery had accumulated 1,116 yards from scrimmage, including 775 rushing yards, and 12 touchdowns in 14 games.
However, not all Lions players are in the clear, as right guard Kevin Zeitler (hamstring), cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (hamstring/illness), and defensive lineman Pat O’Connor (calf) did not participate in practice. Losing Zeitler would be a significant setback for Detroit’s offensive line, which has been one of the league’s best. On a positive note, cornerback Terrion Arnold, who was seen in a walking boot after Week 18’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, is showing signs of recovery and could be available for Detroit’s upcoming playoff game.
