The Detroit Lions were nearly the top team in the NFC throughout most of the 2024 regular season, finishing with an impressive 15-2 record and securing the top playoff spot. However, their reign at the top ended abruptly when they lost to the Washington Commanders in the first round of the playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles quickly claimed the NFC throne after dominating the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl. Amon-Ra St. Brown is eager for the Lions to have a chance at reclaiming that top spot, and during the February 12 episode of the “St. Brown Podcast,” he expressed a desire for the Lions to face the Eagles in the 2025 season opener. He believes it would be a chance to see how the Lions’ healthy defense would have fared in the postseason, saying, “You would see with our healthy defense how that (expletive) operates.” Looking at the Eagles’ 2025 schedule, the Lions seem like the perfect opponent for the season-opening game. While the Eagles will host three other playoff teams next season, none of those matchups would spark as much excitement as a showdown with the Lions, their first meeting since Week 1 of 2022. With one of the Lions’ star players already on board, it’s likely the Eagles would be interested too, especially with the prospect of a potential NFC Championship Game preview in the opener.
