Michigan is in the running for several top running backs in the 2026 recruiting class, including a four-star prospect who recently named the Wolverines as one of his finalists. This player, Deshonne Redeaux, has been compared to Detroit Lions’ star Jahmyr Gibbs, and the Wolverines could be a serious contender for his commitment.

Redeaux, ranked as the No. 105 overall player and No. 9 running back nationally, hails from Oaks Christian High School in California, the same school that produced Michigan alum Zach Charbonnet. He received a Michigan offer last April, and though his recruitment had been relatively quiet since, his recent announcement of a top-six list — with Michigan included — caught many by surprise. Redeaux has also been compared to Gibbs by 247Sports’ Greg Biggins, who highlighted his impressive speed and versatility. Redeaux, who is also a top sprinter with personal bests of 10.42 in the 100m and 21.32 in the 200m, is known for his home-run hitting ability on the field, showcasing both the agility to make defenders miss and the physicality to break tackles.

Biggins also pointed out Redeaux’s ability to catch passes out of the backfield, including downfield routes, and his strong upper body helps him carry his 195-pound frame with ease. His decision-making as a runner stands out, as he hits the hole quickly and isn’t afraid to engage with defenders. Although he didn’t play his sophomore track season due to injury, his speed remains a key asset. Redeaux has the potential to become a top-tier running back at the collegiate level.

The Wolverines will need to bring Redeaux to campus for a real shot at securing his commitment, as he has yet to visit Ann Arbor. However, Michigan still has a strong chance. Redeaux mentioned in October that his decision will heavily depend on his relationship with the coaching staff and the overall fit with the program. He’s looking for a school where he can compete for championships while receiving strong development for the next level, both on the field and in life after football. Michigan checks these boxes, with a proven track record of sending running backs to the NFL, such as Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings, and a well-regarded coach in Tony Alford.

While there’s still much to be determined, Michigan’s strong program and Alford’s ability to build meaningful relationships with recruits make the Wolverines a team to watch in Redeaux’s recruitment.
