Coventry City manager Frank Lampard played a key role in convincing French winger Loum Tchaouna to choose the Sky Blues despite interest from two other European clubs.

Tchaouna has completed a move to Coventry City from Burnley for a reported fee of around £20 million, signing a five-year contract with the Championship club.

The 22-year-old winger made 29 Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 season, scoring three goals. Despite showing flashes of his potential, Tchaouna struggled to establish himself as a regular starter after joining Burnley from Lazio in 2025.

His move to Coventry represents another important opportunity in his young career, with Lampard reportedly playing a major role in persuading him to join the club.

Frank Lampard’s Role in Loum Tchaouna Transfer

According to a source close to the deal who spoke to Sport Witness, Lampard’s involvement was crucial in Coventry City’s successful pursuit of Tchaouna.

The Coventry manager reportedly presented the French winger with an ambitious project focused on his development and improvement.

“Lampard was one of the people who pushed a lot, and the coach explained a big project to the boy to improve, work hard, and it was a very interesting project,” the source said.

Lampard’s vision appears to have convinced Tchaouna that Coventry City was the right destination for the next stage of his career.

Tchaouna Rejected Interest From Monaco and PSV

Despite Burnley’s disappointing Premier League campaign, Tchaouna attracted significant interest from clubs across Europe.

The French winger reportedly had offers from both AS Monaco and PSV Eindhoven before deciding to join Coventry City.

“The other clubs interested were AS Monaco and PSV, who made offers to Burnley,” the source revealed.

Tchaouna’s decision to choose Coventry over two established European clubs highlights the influence Lampard and the club’s long-term project had on the player.

Coventry City Move Could Be Crucial for Tchaouna

With his future now secured at Coventry City, Tchaouna’s focus will be on making an impact and establishing himself as a key player under Lampard.

The winger’s future return to Italy has not been ruled out, but for now, his priority is succeeding with Coventry.

“In the future, to come back to Italy, I’m not sure yet. What is important is for him to focus on what is happening at Coventry City,” the source explained.

“He has to give his 100%. He is still young, so you never know, but now he has to focus on this season. It will be very important and interesting for him and the club.”

Why Loum Tchaouna’s Coventry Move Makes Sense

Tchaouna enjoyed one of the best spells of his young career at Salernitana during the 2023/24 season. He made 33 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists, performances that helped earn him a move to Lazio.

Now, Coventry City are hoping he can rediscover that form and take his career to the next level.

The Sky Blues have reportedly invested around £20 million in the winger, making him a significant part of the club’s plans. The expectation will be for Tchaouna to play a more prominent role than he did at Burnley.

Lampard’s reputation for developing young players could also prove important. If the Coventry manager can help Tchaouna reach his full potential, the move could become one of the most significant transfers of the club’s recent history.

For the 22-year-old, choosing Coventry City over interest from Monaco and PSV could ultimately prove to be the right decision as he looks to establish himself as a key player in English football.
