JaMarcus Russell has made news lately. Russell recently visited LSU and reunited with his former Oakland Raiders head coach, Lane Kiffin, who is now the head coach of LSU. Despite being an LSU legend, several other universities highly recruited Russell, including Florida State.
Russell is now discussing his recruitment experience and claims he was drugged while visiting Florida State on the Raw Room podcast.
“I’m in the car, all I remember is everyone getting in that motherfucker, then the next thing I know, I’m at the boys dorm. The next thing I recall, I walked into the room and found him laid up with around four individuals,” Russell told. “So I’m like, ‘Damn, I don’t remember. ‘ The only thing I recall was the automobile. I don’t recall anything after everyone returned into the car. Then, the next day, we dined with the family, all that. ”
Russell was strongly sought after following high school in Mobile, Alabama. He was a four-year high school starter who received honorable mention as an All-American during his senior year. Nearly every team in the SEC made offers to the quarterback, but by the time signing day arrived in February 2003, just LSU and Florida State remained. He decided to drive to Baton Rouge.
“You’ve got your little drink on. ” Bro, you know what it’s like to be tilted. You know how it feels like to get up and throw up, then suffer a hangover. You know what it feels like. You know how it is when you’re in high school and have a few drinks? Because I was totally blacked out, bro. “I don’t recall anything,” the former LSU star said.
In the end, deciding to attend LSU over Florida State was the correct decision for him. After redshirting as a freshman, he would go on to pass for 6,625 yards and 51 touchdowns, while also being named a first-team All-SEC selection and winning the Manning Award in 2006. This resulted in Russell being the Raiders’ first overall choice in the 2007 NFL Draft.
