Prior to the 2026 season, LSU’s running back group is in great condition under Lane Kiffin. The Tigers have an excellent 1-2 punch in the backfield since Kiffin managed to hold onto both Harlem Berry and Caden Durham.
Through the transfer portal, he also brought on Raycine Guillory from Utah, Dilin Jones from Wisconsin, Stacy Gage from UCF, and Rod Gainey Jr. from Charlotte. With those additions, LSU has the running back depth that it desperately needed in 2025.
Although Kiffin’s debut season in Baton Rouge shows signs of a powerful rushing offense for LSU, Kiffin and his team are not deterred from planning ahead. Four-star RB Jayden Miles, who hails from Baton Rouge Catholic High School nearby, is a player who continues to be at the top of Kiffin’s and the Tigers’ list.
With local product Jayden Miles, LSU hoping to score a significant recruiting victory
Miles is the best running back in Louisiana and the tenth-best running back in the nation for the 2027 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Miles’ recruitment has seen LSU take the lead in recent weeks, with Sam Spiegelman of Rivals predicting that the hometown player would choose LSU.
In addition to LSU, the 6’2″, 200-pound running back has also received offers from Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Houston, Florida State, and Auburn.
Miles’ close proximity to LSU has given him the chance to make several unscheduled trips to the institution throughout the last few seasons. Most recently, he visited campus during the last weekend of January alongside other in-state talent, such as WR Miguel Whitley and ATH Braylon Calais.
Kiffin made it clear in his early days as the head of the LSU Football program that in-state high school recruits are a top priority for LSU’s roster development. Miles would be a fantastic addition to LSU’s 2027 class, which currently only consists of two players: 4-star quarterback Peyton Houston and 4-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant. Kiffin appears to have LSU well-positioned in the competition for Miles’s services, even though it is still early.
