LSU football is preparing for the Lane Kiffin era in 2026 with spring football practice. That includes Kiffin joining the LSU team late. However, he already noticed three performers.
He praised the “ultra elite” skills of two offensive players and a defender, expressing his passion for each with reporters who attended Wednesday practice. He began with tight end Trey’Dez Green.
“(Trey’Dez Green) is extremely great, but so is his attitude, which is really exceptional since they generally do not match,” Kiffin remarked.
Who else stood out in Kiffin’s view?
“Ty (Benefield), the safety, has it as well, and Jordan (Seaton) appears to have it,” Kiffin said. “If you were a scout out there watching, you know those three guys would stand out from a skill set of ultra elite. “
Green is the only holdover from Brian Kelly’s tenure. He was a significant local recruiting success for the previous head coach, ranking as the No. 2 Louisiana candidate in 2024. The Zachary native was also the No. 1 tight end according to the 247Sports composite. Ole Miss did not provide Kiffin a position when he was the head coach. Sounds like Kiffin will unleash him in the fall, capitalizing on his 6-foot-7 stature.
Benefield is making a significant transition to the Southeastern Conference. He previously played for Boise State, leading the Mountain West Conference in both seasons. He just finished with 105 total tackles, including 69 solo stops.
Seaton reinforces Kiffin’s offensive lines. He was previously a highly regarded five-star acquisition for Deion Sanders at Colorado. The 6-foot-5, 307-pounder is projected to compete for the blindside position.
