Tennessee has developed some frontcourt depth after attempting for several weeks. Christian Fermin, who traveled to Tennessee on Wednesday, committed to the Volunteers this afternoon. Fermin joins from VCU, where he played alongside Tennessee guard Terrence Hill Jr. for a couple of seasons.
Due to a personal issue, Fermin only played in four games for the Rams last season. He played in 86 games during the last three seasons, serving as VCU’s rim guard. In his final full season (2024-25), Fermin averaged 4. 6 points, 3. 1 rebounds, and 1. 4 blocks per game. During his time with VCU, he blocked 111 shots.
The 6-10, 225-pounder joins Tennessee as a redshirt senior with one season of eligibility remaining. He joins DeWayne Brown, Miles Rubin, and Braeden Lue in the Volunteers’ frontcourt.
Barring any unforeseen events, this should complete the Tennessee roster. The Volunteers welcomed eight new players after losing six to the portal, totally changing the roster. Rick Barnes’ emphasis was clearly on scoring, but now he’s adding someone who can defend the rim and grab rebounds.
Tennessee still has the second-ranked class in the transfer portal cycle, according to 247Sports. The Volunteers are expected to be a top ten preseason team next season and one of the favorites to win the SEC for the second year in a row.
