Following their devastating playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys were anticipated to take a highly strong stance heading into the offseason.

They were incredibly silent, which disappointed the supporters, and they have been criticized for being too passive.

Rather, the Cowboys will maintain a mostly unchanged roster through 2024. In light of this, Dallas is also in for what may prove to be a crucial make-or-break season.

Many people think that the Cowboys will undergo a major rebuilding of the current squad if they don’t win the NFC East and go far in the playoffs.

This year, Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott are both very much in the firing line. That in itself makes their lack of aggressiveness throughout the offseason odd.

Tony Pollard’s departure in free agency this offseason was one of the Dallas Cowboys’ biggest losses.

If the team had substituted him, the situation would not have been as serious. They currently plan to start Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield. Elliott is still quite good, but his speed has significantly decreased from his heyday as a Cowboys standout.

Is it possible for the team to try to acquire a running back before the season starts?

Recently, eight possible transactions that might occur after the NFL Draft and before the 2024 season were examined by Bleacher Report.

In one of them, running back Najee Harris was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a huge trade.

They did not state which conditional pick would be used, although it would be possible to use a fourth-round pick that could be converted to a third-round pick based on performance and success. It would be obvious for the Dallas Cowboys to sign a player with Harris’ caliber.

He would take over as the team’s primary running back right away, greatly elevating the potential of the offense. Harris had a tremendous year in 2023.

On the other side of this transaction, Jaylen Warren is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This enables them to transfer Harris in the event that the ideal arrangement arises. Additionally, Cordarrelle Patterson, a fantastic backup to Warren, was signed by Pittsburgh via free agency.

Harris ended up running the ball 255 times for 1,035 yards and eight touchdowns in the Steelers’ 2023 campaign. For 170 yards, he also grabbed 29 passes.

Those stats would look fantastic in the backfield of the Dallas Cowboys. He would have an immediate influence and improve the team’s chances of winning.

Will there be a trade in the end? Most likely not. But it seems interesting to both parties, and if the opportunity arose, the Cowboys should definitely take it.
