Casting Update: Len Cariou Joins Kevin Kline’s New MGM+ Comedy, John Stamos to Voice Iron Man’s Father and More

Blue Bloods alum Len Cariou has joined the cast of the upcoming MGM+ comedy American Classic, starring Kevin Kline. The series, officially greenlit in January, follows Richard Bean (Kline), a once-celebrated Broadway star who suffers a very public breakdown and retreats to his family’s struggling hometown theater. There, he finds his father, Linus (played by Cariou), the venue’s aging artistic director, is no longer up to the job. Richard’s brother (Jon Tenney) and sister-in-law (Laura Linney) have since transformed the once-prestigious space into a kitschy dinner theater.

Cariou is best known for playing Henry Reagan across nearly 300 episodes of Blue Bloods. His other notable roles include turns in Damages Season 3, Brotherhood, and HBO’s Into the Storm, where his portrayal of Franklin D. Roosevelt earned him an Emmy nomination.

More Casting Highlights:

  • Jake Johnson has signed on to co-star with Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) in Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, a dark comedy thriller in development at Apple TV+. The half-hour series follows a newly divorced mother (Maslany) who gets entangled in a sinister spiral of blackmail, murder—and youth soccer. Johnson will play her ex-husband.
  • John Stamos, who currently voices Iron Man/Tony Stark in Spidey and His Amazing Friends, will take on the role of Howard Stark, Tony’s father, in the upcoming Marvel preschool series Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. The show premieres Monday, August 11 on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel, with the first 10 episodes hitting Disney+ the next day.
