Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams delivered one of his best performances of the 2025 season in the team’s blowout win over the Washington Commanders — a game that showcased why his explosive skill set makes him nearly impossible to defend.

The former first-round pick hauled in six passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, flashing the elite speed and playmaking ability that made him such a coveted prospect coming out of college.

A big part of Williams’ success came from head coach Dan Campbell’s decision to take over play-calling duties. Campbell made it a priority to feature Williams on intermediate and crossing routes, where his acceleration and elusiveness could create big plays after the catch.

“I approach every day the same,” Williams said. “Whether I’m getting the ball or not, my mindset doesn’t change. I just want to be ready to make plays whenever my number’s called.”

Campbell’s aggressive play design paid off, as the Lions’ offense exploded for over 500 total yards and 44 points. Williams credited his coach and teammates for the team’s balanced, high-powered attack.

“Shout out to Dan for the way he called the game,” Williams said. “We had a chip on our shoulder coming off last week’s loss. When you spread the ball around like that, it makes it easy to put points on the board with all the talent we’ve got.”

Campbell explained that the plan was to exploit Washington’s man coverage by giving his receivers space to separate. “We knew they’d play a lot of man and match coverages,” he said. “So it was about getting our guys open and letting them use their speed. When you execute that right, it’s hard to stop.”

Quarterback Jared Goff praised Williams for his preparation and focus leading up to the game. “He was incredible,” Goff said. “We just kept going back to him. He was locked in all week at practice, and it showed. Watching him break out like that was awesome.”

Goff also emphasized how valuable Williams’ speed is to the Lions’ offense going forward. “He’s one of the fastest guys in the league,” Goff said. “When you get him in open space, he’s basically a cheat code. That’s something we want to keep taking advantage of.”

With his growing confidence, refined route running, and unmatched quickness, Jameson Williams is quickly proving to be Detroit’s ultimate X-factor — a true cheat code in the Lions’ offensive arsenal.
