The Detroit Lions are being connected to a massive offseason trade idea that could bring Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett to Detroit. After entering the trade deadline as a team expected to make a major move, the Lions ultimately stood pat — but future upgrades to the pass rush remain a talking point.

Detroit dealt with major pass-rushing issues last season after Aidan Hutchinson’s injury, the departure of Za’Darius Smith, and the early-season loss of Marcus Davenport. Although the 2025 unit has exceeded expectations, analysts warn that the Lions may not get the same level of production from their depth pieces next year.

That sparked a proposal from Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, who suggested the Lions trade:

2026 1st-round pick

2027 1st-round pick

2026 2nd-round pick

2027 3rd-round pick

2026 4th-round pick
in exchange for Myles Garrett.

Such a move would instantly give the Lions one of the NFL’s most feared defensive fronts and significantly strengthen their Super Bowl chances.

Why Myles Garrett Would Transform the Lions Defense

Detroit already owns one of the league’s top pass-rushing units with 31 sacks and a defense allowing just 192.1 passing yards per game. Pairing Garrett with Hutchinson would likely elevate the Lions into a top-tier defense statistically.

Garrett recently signed a four-year, $160 million extension keeping him under contract through 2030. He currently leads the NFL with 22 tackles for loss and 15 sacks, adding to his impressive career total of 117.5 sacks.

Hutchinson, who also signed a long-term deal worth $180 million, remains one of the league’s most disruptive defenders, posting 7.5 sacks in 10 games and ranking No. 1 in forced fumbles.

Together, the duo would form one of the NFL’s most dominant edge combinations.

Detroit’s Need for Long-Term Pass-Rush Stability

While Hutchinson leads the team in sacks, Al-Quadin Muhammad has been a surprise standout with six sacks during a contract year. Linebackers Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes have generated pressure as well, but sack production from the LB spot is usually inconsistent over time.

The Lions have been in Super Bowl contention for three consecutive seasons, and making a bold move for a generational pass rusher like Garrett could extend that competitive window even further.
