The Detroit Lions are getting a major boost in their secondary as they prepare for Sunday’s home game against the New York Giants. On Saturday, the team officially activated cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Khalil Dorsey from injured reserve, restoring depth to a position group that has been stretched thin for weeks.
Reed has been sidelined since Week 4 with a hamstring injury, while Dorsey has missed the same stretch due to a wrist injury. Both defensive backs returned to practice recently, and the Lions were encouraged enough by their progress to bring them back onto the 53-man roster. Their return comes at the perfect time, as Detroit will be without rookie standout Terrion Arnold, who has been ruled out after suffering a concussion.
The Lions’ defense has struggled against big plays in recent weeks, and welcoming back two experienced corners should help stabilize the secondary as the team looks to rebound and stay competitive in the NFC playoff race. Reed, known for his physical playing style and coverage ability, instantly adds veteran leadership. Dorsey brings speed, special teams value, and versatility — all traits Detroit will lean on with Arnold unavailable.
To make room for Reed and Dorsey, the Lions waived safety Erick Hallett and linebacker Ty Summers. Both players had contributed on special teams and depth packages, but the roster adjustments were necessary to reinforce the cornerback room.
Detroit also elevated tight end Anthony Firkser from the practice squad for Sunday’s matchup. With the offense looking to create more consistency in the passing game, Firkser could see snaps as an additional receiving option or run-game support.
