Texas Tech went beyond the Lone Star State to make an offer to Marrero (Louisiana) Archbishop Shaw High School defensive back Rontrae Carter on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders’ offer was the most recent for Carter, who is rated as a three-star recruit by both On3 and 247Sports. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, he is the No. 491 recruit in the country, the No. 50 safety, and the No. 16 player in Louisiana. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked No. 437 overall, No. 39 safety, and No. 15 player in Louisiana.
Recapping the Season
Carter and the Eagles had a fantastic 2025 season, and he was named a First-Team All-State selection for the second year in a row. Shaw concluded with a 9-5 record and was hoping for his second straight state title. They advanced to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division II Select Final, but were defeated in a heartbreaker by St. Charles Catholic, 23-21. Despite failing to win another title, Carter was happy with their performance.
“We got off to a great start to the season, and I’m pleased with how we ended it, even though we fell short in the state championship. “Carter,” the man said.
Texas Tech’s offer to him.
Carter has received over 20 scholarship offers from institutions, including Arkansas, Ole Miss, Houston, Baylor, Boston College, Florida State, Texas State, Troy, TCU, Tulane, Sacramento State, Louisiana, Arizona State, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Tulsa, Syracuse, Arkansas State, Liberty, and Washington State. He received his offer from the Red Raiders after meeting with safeties coach Rob Greene.
“My recruiting has been going really well, and I’m really thankful and blessed for the opportunity I have. I’m also aiming to get my fourth star. My conversation with Coach Greene went well. We got to talk a bit about their squad and some of the new players joining them. “I believe Texas Tech is a very high-quality program, and I am really interested in learning more about them,” he said.
Other schools involved
With Junior Days already begun at schools and coaches visiting high schools, prospects have the opportunity to visit campuses or meet with coaches. Among Carter’s offers, TCU and Mississippi State are two schools that stand out. He intends to visit both Starkville and Fort Worth shortly.
“Mississippi State and TCU are a couple of schools that stand out right now. I intend to visit Mississippi State this weekend and TCU on February 1st. Ole Miss, Baylor, and Tulane are among the institutions that have contacted me.
What he seeks in a program
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Carter is loving recruiting and has no hurry to decide, but he understands what he wants in a program.
“I’m seeking for a program that can help me be a better man, as well as one that can prepare me for the real world outside of football. “
With his recruitment picking up, I anticipate that his offer list and star rating will increase rapidly!
