With Lane Kiffin as the new coach in Baton Rouge, LSU is heading into the 2026–27 football season with as much optimism as any other team.
The Tigers will be under a lot of scrutiny every week next year as Kiffin is at LSU. Now is the ideal moment for LSU sports to seize the opportunity, since the NCAA will start permitting commercial jersey patches the following year. The school revealed on Monday that Woodside Energy will be included on the team uniforms of all LSU sports beginning the following year.
Jersey patches have been quite popular in European football, and they have also made their way into the NBA. Although LSU’s announcement with Woodside Energy is the first official collaboration in college athletics, it is likely only the beginning.
Verge Ausberry, vice president and athletic director at LSU, made a statement.
“This collaboration with Woodside Energy is a huge step forward for LSU Athletics and our student-athletes,” Ausberry stated. “We are thrilled to align athletic excellence with community impact through this historic collaboration, and LSU continues to set the standard and remain at the forefront of this new era of collegiate athletics. ”
Because NIL is such a contentious and important topic in collegiate sports today, these alliances give institutions a fantastic chance to expand their NIL resources and support the development of championship competitors.
The new patch will be on the Tigers’ uniforms when they face Clemson in the season opener on September 5.
