The Wolverines were still in the process of restructuring, although Michigan’s coaches seem to be cast in stone as they approach the 2026 campaign. The recruiting department at Michigan was reportedly taking a hit, according to reports released on Tuesday. Kyle Whittingham left behind Sean Magee, the general manager, and a few other members of the recruiting staff.
However, it seems that the Wolverines will have a new GM in place very soon, as of Wednesday night.
Football Scoop was the first to break the news that Michigan was pursuing Dave Peloquin, who previously served as Notre Dame’s top personnel executive. Even though he spent 21 seasons at Notre Dame, he quit the Irish to concentrate on NIL, which might be a huge benefit to Michigan.
First and foremost, athletes
Peloquin is now the agency’s GM at Athletes First.
He has been in charge of the collegiate division of Athletes First’s College Representation Division for the past year, where he has concentrated on helping athletes get to the NFL while receiving fair compensation for their efforts.
Since quitting Notre Dame, Peloquin has been very interested in the NIL aspect. The Wolverines were particularly sluggish to adapt to the new era of college football, particularly during Jim Harbaugh’s tenure. Kyle Whittingham seems to be following Sherrone Moore’s example on that side of the field.
Peloquin’s connection to Michigan
Football Scoop states:
Before the idea of a collegiate general manager ever existed, Peloquin and Tony Alford, the Wolverines’ star running backs coach, collaborated closely at Notre Dame, where Alford had been the Fighting Irish’s best recruiter and Peloquin had subsequently advanced to the position of director of player personnel.
In addition, Peloquin assisted in recruiting Tyler Stockton to Notre Dame from New Jersey’s prep school powerhouse, The Hun School; Stockton was hired by the Whittingham & Co. as Michigan’s new safeties coach. He has been nominated for the Broyles Award numerous times and was previously recognized by the AFCA 35-under-35 program.
Finally, the most recent addition to Michigan’s on-field staff is defensive line coach Larry Black, a former Peloquin colleague from their shared season in South Bend, Indiana, in 2018. Black was a crucial member of then-defensive coordinator Clark Lea’s Fighting Irish defense staff.
Peloquin would be a valuable addition to Michigan right away because he has a wonderful history and close relationships with the employees.
