Running back David Montgomery has been traded away from Detroit.
On Monday, the Lions traded Montgomery to the Houston Texans in return for a diverse trade package.
Detroit got a fourth-round pick, a seventh-round pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs in return.
Rumors had circulated at the NFL Combine that Montgomery wanted an exit from Detroit, but he appeared to deny them on Sunday.
“Damn, Dmo told you that?” he wrote on X.
Montgomery has spent the last three seasons in Detroit, but his touches have dropped each year.
Across three seasons he rushed for 2,506 yards with 33 touchdowns.
He is joining a Texans team that is searching for an answer at the running back position.
Woody Marks took a bulk of the carries for Houston in 2025 but only managed 706 yards and two touchdowns.
Joe Mixon and Nick Chubb are also rostered by the Texans.
Montgomery has a clear path to starting on the Texas, and should be the lead back over Marks in 2026.
