Head football coach Mike Norvell has a mixed track record for nurturing local talent in the high school recruiting trail. It looks like the Seminoles have opted to dip their toes in the transfer market.

This was aggravating since other schools, such as arch-rival Miami, focus on the high school ranks with a smattering in the transfer market. Last year, the Hurricanes advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana, prompting some fans to compare their accomplishment to Florida State’s.

Norvell has headlined several people’s hot-seat speculations in college football. While I’m not waving my pitchfork to have him removed from Tallahassee, I understand that there is a standard at a proud program like Florida State.

Hykeem Williams, a former Florida State wide receiver, gets into a fight.

There have been occasions when Florida State supporters have been ecstatic about the Seminoles’ recruiting efforts. We can look back at the 2023 recruiting cycle, which included standout candidate Hykeem Williams, a five-star broad receiver from Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Williams was an early enrollee at Florida State, but he took some time to adapt to the college game. Some media outlets even praised wide receiver prospect Vandrevius Jacobs over Hykeem Williams because to his strong performance throughout the spring.

However, the fan base did not give up on Williams, recognizing his talent. Unfortunately, things did not work out for the former five-star prospect at Florida State, so he chose to move to Colorado to play for former Florida State defensive back and current Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.

Last season, the former Stranahan High School superstar had only nine receptions for 81 yards and no touchdowns in nine games with Colorado. A few teams, like the Buffaloes, have begun spring practice, and Williams did not get off to a good start when he was engaged in a practice scuffle.

Football is a physically demanding sport, and tempers may flare at times. Hykeem Williams is an outstanding young man, and everyone at ChopChat hopes him the best. However, the outstanding pass receiver must focus on his abilities and have a monster 2026 season.
