With spring practice on the horizon, Texas A&M football is once again in the public eye, and the Aggies are heading into the 2026 offseason with excitement, momentum, and a roster that has undergone significant changes, even down to the jersey numbers.

Head coach Mike Elko now has the difficult task of maintaining the momentum he gained after guiding Texas A&M to an 11-0 start and the program’s first College Football Playoff berth in school history last year.

The Aggies have reloaded aggressively by means of recruiting and the transfer portal, and a number of important players will be sporting new numbers when spring training begins in College Station on March 20.

Although they may appear superficial, the changes frequently point to shifting roles within the program.

From a defensive perspective, the first thing that stands out is linebacker Noah Mikhail switching to No. 0.

After proving to be a flexible defensive force last year, the junior is anticipated to anchor the Aggies’ linebacker room in 2026. Additionally, as the Aggies continue to reorganize their secondary, safety Dalton Brooks drew attention by moving to No. 7, while Myles Davis, another defensive back, will wear No. 13.

Sam M’Pemba, an edge rusher, makes another fascinating shift, rising from number 92 to number 15. Texas A&M’s defense team is hoping for a breakthrough season from the former five-star recruit, who has the physical skills to be a disruptive pass rusher.

Jamario Morrow and Tiger Riden Jr. , the running backs, will be wearing numbers 2 and 5, respectively, while Terry Bussey, the dynamic playmaker on offense, will be switching from number 2 to number 6.

The Aggies will now wear No. 9 as they continue to increase their offensive flexibility, with tight end Kiotti Armstrong donning the number.

But the newcomers could provide the greatest thrill.

In the 2026 cycle, Texas A&M secured the No. 4 transfer portal class and the No. 7 high school recruiting class, and a number of new faces might have an immediate impact on the roster.

Colorado safety Tawfiq Boyd is anticipated to compete for early snaps in the Aggies’ secondary while donning number four.

Tyree Adams, an offensive lineman who transferred from LSU and now wears No. 71, improves the trenches for the Aggies, while Isaiah Horton, a transfer wide receiver from Alabama, provides the Aggies with another major play target outside, currently wearing No. 7.

The depth chart might change significantly due to rookie talent. KJ Edwards, one of the most exciting possibilities in the class at running back, will wear number 0.

Two other highly touted newcomers to keep an eye on during spring practices are defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright and defensive back Brandon Arrington.

Before concluding with the annual Maroon and White spring game on April 18, which is open to supporters wishing to witness the next stage in the development of Aggies football, Texas A&M will host a total of 15 spring sessions.

The Aggies may once again be at the center of the national championship discussion if Elko’s roster makeover lives up to expectations.
