NFL free agency is well underway. Over the last few weeks, a number of former BYU players have signed contracts with new teams.
Zach Wilson, New Orleans Saints
Zach Wilson recently agreed to a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints had some success with rookie quarterback Tyler Shough last season, so Wilson will compete for the backup quarterback position.
Wilson spent the previous year as a reserve for the Miami Dolphins. The previous year, he was a backup quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Since quitting the New York Jets, Wilson has not started a game in the NFL.
Wilson joins a New Orleans organization headed by offensive expert Kellen Moore. Moore has ties to BYU as a church member.
Zayne Anderson, Miami Dolphins
Zayne Anderson, a former BYU safety/linebacker, will relocate to Miami after spending many years in Green Bay. Anderson has been a special teams standout throughout his NFL career. He agreed to a one-year contract worth $1. 4 million.
Anderson is another unselected free agent success story from BYU. He will be entering his sixth season in the NFL. He has played in 47 games throughout his career.
Tyler Allgeier – Arizona Cardinals.
Tyler Allgeier rushed for over 1,000 yards as a rookie with Atlanta. A few months later, Atlanta selected Bijan Robinson with a top ten pick, and Allgeier has spent the previous several years in Robinson’s shadow.
Allgeier is on his way to Arizona, where he hopes to be the Cardinals’ starting running back. He signed a two-year contract worth just over $12 million. He will also be close to his sister, who attends Arizona State.
Allgeier has rushed for over 2,900 yards in his career. In the three years following his rookie season, he averaged 613 yards per season.
The Cardinals aim to rebuild under new head coach Mike LaFleur.
Khyiris Tonga, Kansas City Chiefs.
Khyiris Tonga will play for the Chiefs after appearing in a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. Tonga will reconnect with former BYU Cougars Andy Reid and Kingsley Suamataia in Kansas City.
Tonga recorded 24 total tackles previous year, including three stuffs. In his first five years in the NFL, he has played in 11 or more games. Like Zayne Anderson, Tonga is entering his sixth season in the NFL.
