According to OnSI, the New York Jets will host Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton on a pre-draft 30-day visit ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
According to OnSI, Morton met with Jets representatives on Wednesday night prior to his pro day. It was a formal supper attended by general manager Darren Mougey, head coach Aaron Glenn, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich. The former Red Raiders quarterback was presented with a section of a playbook and tested on his retention after studying it the night before.
Morton would be a great fit for the Jets.
The planned visit, which was set after the conference and pro day session, most likely suggests that Mougey, Glenn, Reich, and the rest of the staff liked what they saw and are thinking about drafting him to bring him to New York.
Morton spent five seasons at Texas Tech, starting in each of the previous three. The Eastland, Texas, native had over 9,000 passing yards, completed 62. 8 percent of his passes, and threw 71 total touchdowns.
The 23-year-old quarterback told the media during his pro day that teams have expressed interest in selecting him mostly as a backup quarterback.
Morton, ranked No. 315 on PFF’s NFL Draft big board, is projected to be picked late, most likely in the sixth or seventh round. According to a source, he met with the Dallas Cowboys before his pro day and has pre-draft visits planned with the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers, all of whom have established starting quarterbacks for the 2026 season.
Morton will enter the NFL after playing 34 games over the previous three seasons, satisfying the well-known ‘Parcells rule. ‘ This regulation stipulates that a quarterback must have started for at least three seasons to be regarded successful at the professional level, among other requirements. In recent years, there has been much debate over how a college quarterback’s experience prior to entering the NFL influences their chances of success at the next level.
The Jets will consider Morton a safe selection in later rounds as they continue with Geno Smith at quarterback in 2026 and prepare for the 2027 NFL Draft in search of their next long-term solution. If Morton receives playing time, his expertise reading complex collegiate defenses may assist him in the NFL. Don’t be astonished if New York selects the former Texas Tech quarterback at any point.
