In Arizona, the NFL league meetings are in progress, and a few storylines have already surfaced. As teams shift their attention toward the 2026 NFL Draft, they are currently concluding discussions.
This week, John Lynch, the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, has made several headlines, and on Tuesday, he made a big choice that made even more.
At wide receiver, the 49ers have important decisions to make, and they have already made one. One of the team’s possibilities has been rejected.
No returns this time
As free agency continues, San Francisco will not re-sign wide receiver Jauan Jennings, Lynch informed reporters. The rumors of a potential comeback have been fueled by the fact that Jennings is still unsigned.
But Lynch seems to have closed that option. Brock Purdy’s once dependable target doesn’t appear to have the strong market that many had anticipated.
After their most recent big wide receiver agreement, the 49ers may also wish to steer clear of any additional contract drama. San Francisco hasn’t yet traded or released Brandon Aiyuk, who has distanced himself from the organization.
Not to imply that Jennings faces the same difficulties as Aiyuk. Despite the fact that Jennings has turned down several of the team’s offers, Lynch may still choose not to take the chance.
It’s still unclear where Jennings will be going next, as well as what his future deal will be worth. In order to get a decent offer, he may have to wait until after the draft.
At the same time, the 49ers may have strengthened their strategy at the position by signing veteran Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans during the offseason.
The team’s only remaining objective is to find a solution to the issue with Aiyuk. Will the 49ers release him or trade him? For the time being, they are not in a hurry to determine his destiny.
