Despite the Blue Devils holding a 19-point lead, the defeat occurred, with star freshman Cam Boozer scoring a game-high 27 points. For individuals who have been monitoring Boozer play this year, his outstanding performance came as no surprise.

His outstanding performance this season earned him ACC Player of the Year, the Oscar Robertson Trophy, and first-team All-ACC, among many other accolades. The projected top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft added another honor to his already impressive resume on Friday.

Boozer received the AP Player of the Year award after averaging 22. 5 points, 10. 2 rebounds, and 4. 1 assists per game while shooting 55. 6% from the field and 39. 1% from beyond the arc during his freshman season.

The news was shared on Instagram by the son of former NBA player Carlos Boozer, together with his agency, Excel Basketball.

The Instagram post read, “Introducing the AP NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR, @cameronboozer! “

Boozer has yet to formally declare for the draft, but he is projected to compete with Kansas’ Darryn Peterson and BYU’s AJ Dybantsa for the top rank.
