Troy-Henderson-—-Tennessee-Basketball

Tennessee guard Troy Henderson has changed his decision. The Vols freshman will return to Knoxville the following season.

According to Mike Wilson of Volquest, Henderson, a signee in Tennessee’s 2025 recruitment class, never registered his name into the transfer portal after announcing his intention to do so on Tuesday. While it is a developmental piece, Henderson’s comeback is great news for a Tennessee squad that will have a mostly new roster next season.

Henderson joins DeWayne Brown as the only established returners to Tennessee in 2026, along with freshman signees Marquis Clark, Manny Green, and Ralph Scott. There are only a few decisions left to make. Vols guard Ethan Burg has yet to formally declare his intentions, and Nate Ament has to decide whether to remain for another year or join the NBA Draft (as expected).

Henderson has shown some potential for Tennessee, particularly in non-conference competition. He had a good assist percentage and was a decent 3-point shooter, but the Vols would like to see his efficiency improve as he approaches his sophomore season. The issue is if Henderson can step up to challenge any incoming guards from the transfer gateway.

So far, six players have entered the transfer portal in Tennessee. This group consists of JP Estrella, Cade Phillips, Jaylen Carey, Amari Evans, Bishop Boswell, and Clarence Massamba.
