According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, BYU’s outstanding point guard has decided to withdraw from the transfer portal and return to the Cougars. He was among the top players in the portal and visited the Kentucky Wildcats, but BYU head coach Kevin Young persuaded him to return for a second season with the Cougars.
Wright established himself as one of the top point guards in the nation last season, with 18. 1 points, 4. 6 assists, 3. 5 rebounds, and 1. 2 steals each game. He played 35 games for them and was named to the All-Big-12 Third Team. He shot 44. 5% from the floor, 38. 8% from three-point range, and 81. 0% from the free-throw line.
He began his career at Baylor and had a successful freshman season with the Bears before moving to BYU ahead of the 2025-26 season. With star rookie AJ Dybantsa departing for the NBA, Wright is now BYU’s top returning player, and he will want to help them go further after they finished 23-12 and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Before departing, On3 rated Wright as the portal’s No. 6 overall player and No. 1 point guard. He has two more seasons of eligibility.
The Cougars have already made multiple important additions via the transfer market, including former Syracuse forward Tyler Betsy and former Kentucky guard Collin Chandler. Both are four-star candidates, with On3 rating Chandler as the No. 32 overall player in the portal and Betsy as the No. 163.
