Thomas Haugh, an important member of their 2025 NCAA Tournament-winning squad, announced today that he would not be leaving the Gators and would be returning with a point to prove ahead of his fourth college season.
The Pennsylvania native was widely expected to make the transition to the next level, but analysts have frequently ridiculed him as a late lottery selection in the next NBA Draft.
Despite being the reigning champions, the heavily favored Florida Gators ended March Madness on a sour note this year, losing 73-72 to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
It appears that the devastating defeat has elicited a significant reaction from the Florida camp. Six of their major players from last season have already stated that they will return next year, in an effort to alter the tale of their time at the institution.
Haugh explains his decision to stay at Florida
Haugh explained his choice to return to the Gators as follows: Following the defeat to Iowa, I had a bitter taste in my mouth, and I believe that many of the players share my feelings.
A lot of fans, and individuals as well, are most likely looking at me with a “What is he doing? ” attitude. I simply believe that I have a lot to prove.
Is Florida going to be the first preseason one?
With Haugh’s return providing a significant boost, Todd Golden’s club will have at least five players from their Championship-winning roster, with the possibility of adding another member of that famed squad.
Denzel Aberdeen, a 22-year-old Florida native, has verbally agreed to return to the Gators after spending one season with the Kentucky Wildcats.
After spending four years in college, Aberdeen has applied for a Redshirt Injury Waiver from his Freshman year to allow him to return for a fifth season, which would be a sentimental homecoming to Gainesville.
Florida has already put together a squad that will be feared in the SEC and beyond, despite the NCAA Transfer Portal only being open for little over a week. Only time will tell what Aberdeen’s future holds, and if the Gators will be able to recruit more skill during the next summer.
