Mike Vrabel, a former Ohio State football player and coach, has had a very busy last several months. First, he competed in the Super Bowl in his first year as the Patriots’ head coach. He lost to the Seahawks after former Buckeye WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba shredded his squad.
Shortly after that, Vrabel had to deal with TreVeyon Henderson’s viral tweet. Following his remarks on social media after the Bulls released Jaden Ivey, he was chastised. As far as Buckeyes go, it wasn’t a good one for those who play for the Patriots.
Now, Vrabel is the one in the hot seat. He was observed with NFL reporter Dianna Russini at a hotel a few hours away from where the NFL meetings were taking place. After pictures were circulated, Russini resigned from The Athletic. Vrabel addressed the photographs on Tuesday.

During a press conference before OTAs, Vrabel admitted that he had to have some tough conversations while explaining those images to his family.
I had to have a talk with the team, which I did yesterday in a very forthright manner… With that in mind, I had to have some tough conversations with people I care about, including my family, the company, the coaches, and the players. Those were positive and productive.
Vrabel stated that he needed to speak with his family and organization about what happened, and he regretted being a distraction. It was not exactly what Vrabel had hoped for when the 2026 offseason schedule began. However, he wanted to address it before the NFL Draft.
Moving ahead, Vrabel promised to tackle each day with zeal. The Patriots will not surprise anybody this season, so he understands that things will be more difficult. It will be similar to when he coached the Ohio State Buckeyes in the early 2010s. Those Ohio State teams were always on the lookout.
Varbel understands that this will not go away totally anytime soon. Nonetheless, he intends to keep the circumstances of what transpired secret, hoping that he and his family may go on.
