With official visit season approaching, the Tennessee Vols and coach Josh Heupel are entering a critical phase, but all focus is on five-star in-state tailback David Gabriel Georges. Tennessee has been in the running for quite some time, but with Ohio State closing in, this recruitment feels like it will go down to the wire. Both clubs have prioritized acquiring a blue-chip running back this cycle, resulting in what appears to be a two-team competition for his commitment.
Josh Heupel hits again on the recruiting trail as the Vols get an underappreciated 2027 commitment. Safety
With that stated, Ohio State is making a daring move to improve its chances of signing Gabriel Georges this week. According to Ohio State On3 author Jeremy Birmingham, the Buckeyes’ whole offensive coaching staff is traveling to Chattanooga to meet with five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. Offensive coordinator Art Smith will be in attendance, along with position coaches Billy Fessler, Tyler Bowen, Keenan Bailey, Cortez Hankton, and running backs coach Carlos Locklyn.
There’s no doubt that Ohio State is making it plain that they want him. The Buckeyes have a strong history of generating high-level running backs, as do the Volunteers. Tennessee has developed Alvin Kamra, Jaylen Wright, Dylan Sampson, and Desean Bishop, with the latter on track to join the NFL.
The Buckeyes’ full offensive coaching staff will be in Chattanooga this week to watch DGG (5-Star RB). Desperation does not look good on you, sweetheart.
Ohio State is pressing David Gabriel Georges.
All indicators suggest that Ohio State Buckeyes football and Tennessee Volunteers football will be fighting it out this summer, all the way up to his July commitment deadline. Those two have been the frontrunners, with Ole Miss and Georgia trailing closely behind. Ohio State will get its first official visit on the weekend of May 29. The Buckeyes will establish the standard, and the Vols will respond next weekend, hosting Gabriel Georges on June 5. Ole Miss and then Georgia will be the final two visits over the next two weekends.
If Josh Heupel succeeds, it would be one of the most significant victories of his Tennessee career. It is never easy to beat Ohio State for a top offensive recruit, especially one on whom they have concentrated all of their efforts.
