Jack Wilshere believes that his Luton Town team must be completely focused on what they can control when they visit Wanderers, as they seek to crack into the top six on the final day.
The Hatters are one point behind sixth-place Stevenage after an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Wilshere lauded his players for their attitude in recent weeks, saying they must be ready to pounce if any of the clubs above them falter.
“No matter what happens, we must ensure that we take care of our business, which we have done. “The players have done an outstanding job at that,” he said to BBC Three Counties.
“Of course, the elephant in the room is that we are chasing. The closer you approach to it and the fewer games you have to play, the more you look at other outcomes.
“But part of that is making sure we are focused and getting our job done, because that is all we can control.
“If someone slips up, we have to be ready to step in and we have given ourselves the best chance of doing so. “
Goals from Nahki Wells and Kasey Palmer helped Luton to a 2-1 victory over Barnsley last weekend, keeping their top six ambitions alive.
“At this point of the season it’s all about winning, and I had the sensation that we were going to find something because I believe the team has truly developed that,” Wilshere remarked.
“We want to still play well and perform because we feel that is the greatest method to win a game, and we have done so really effectively recently, but I didn’t believe we found our rhythm.
“We threatened at times, but we were unable to maintain our foot on the gas with that, and I always felt that if we can suffer in those situations where they’re pushing us, then we defended really well.
“More importantly, I felt like the players believed that we could still find something from somewhere when you’ve got quality on the pitch, and we definitely did that. “
The Hatters are keeping an eye on the health of top-scorer Jordan Clark, who has 12 goals in all competitions this season.
Clark has missed the previous three games due to a calf issue. The midfielder provided an update on his situation at the Supporters’ Trust awards ceremony on Tuesday.
