Doug King, the owner of Coventry City, hopes that Frank Lampard will lead the team into the Premier League.

For the first time in 25 years, Lampard has led the Sky Blues to the Championship championship and a comeback to England’s best division in his debut season as manager.

Discussions about Lampard’s future will occur, according to King, as the ex-England international has one year remaining on the two-and-a-half-year deal he signed in November 2024.

From 2019 to 2021, the Chelsea star was the manager of the Stamford Bridge dugout, and there have been rumors of a comeback. Following Graham Potter’s departure, he went back to his old job as a caretaker in 2023.

As Coventry gets ready for its return to the Premier League, King informed BBC Sport last week that he anticipated there will be interest in Lampard’s services this summer.

“Naturally [I want to keep him,” King stated in an interview with The Football Boardroom Podcast.

“I’m aware of how Frank views me. With no parachute payments, he has led and built our team to the Championship title with exceptional skill.

“Everyone wants what they want, and I will assess the situation, and I hope he will be with us into the next adventure that we have taken in the Premier League, because I think he enjoys working in that environment. “

“I think he has done a great job, and I am sure as we move forward, we will have conversations about the situation. ”

Carl Rushworth, a Brighton goalkeeper on loan, has been a crucial component of Coventry’s championship-winning season and is a candidate for the Championship Player of the Season award.

With the club anticipated to make a bid to sign him permanently this summer, Rushworth is eager to prolong his stay at Coventry.

According to Standard Sport, Lampard’s impact has been a significant factor in Rushworth’s choice to remain with the Sky Blues.

However, King gave a cryptic response when questioned about Rushworth’s future, saying that prior to bringing the 24-year-old on loan, the club had attempted to recruit him permanently.

“I had no choice,” King went on to say.

“Although I spoke with Tony [Bloom] about the issue, it was clearly more important for me to sign the goalkeeper than to spend my life battling [for a permanent option]. “

“I am aware of the circumstances. At this moment, I have nothing more to contribute. I’m just really pleased that he brought us into the Premier League and had a fantastic time.
