Leeds United are practically safe after earning 43 points with a victory over Burnley on Friday night, and they may look forward to one more season in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke has downplayed any notion of celebrations until the club’s safety is formally confirmed. Regardless, Leeds might guarantee their Premier League spot even before they face Tottenham next Monday night.
The Spurs’ game next week is expected to be significant, as another victory for the home side may be enough to secure their safety. However, if Leeds get a result in north London, Tottenham would be in grave difficulty.
West Ham appear to be the club most likely to be relegated, and they have a very challenging match upcoming against Arsenal at home next weekend.
Jamie Carragher says West Ham are relying on Leeds to defeat Liverpool.
The Hammers are in a difficult situation following their 3-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday. Jamie Carragher has reviewed their position, and the findings are bleak.
He does not believe West Ham will defeat Arsenal at home next weekend. However, the former defender admitted that they may gain a point.
Carragher, on the other hand, stated that West Ham’s chances are dependent on Leeds getting a result against Tottenham on Monday night to keep Spurs in the race.
He feels that Tottenham will almost certainly survive if they win against Leeds. But West Ham’s prospects are in carrying the fight to the final day of the season, when they will face Farke’s side at the London Stadium.
Carragher questioned on Sky Sports: “Are they going to defeat Arsenal? ” I find that difficult to believe.
“They nearly need to hope that Leeds might go [Tottenham] there and get a point.
“Could they earn a point at home against Arsenal? ” Yes.
“If they match Tottenham’s results, I then go to here [Tottenham vs Chelsea and West Ham vs Newcastle].
“Both difficult games, and I realize Chelsea were dreadful today, but can you imagine the desire within that team to send Tottenham down.
“That will be a difficult game for Tottenham, away at Chelsea.
“But this situation here [Tottenham versus Leeds, and West Ham versus Arsenal] provides Tottenham an excellent chance to virtually put it to bed.
“West Ham have to hope that they can get it to the final day. “
West Ham and Tottenham are hoping to get a favor from Leeds.
If West Ham defeats Arsenal on Sunday, Leeds will be statistically safe before visiting Tottenham on Monday night.
That puts Leeds in a fascinating position, with the ability to influence which teams are relegated by the end of the season.
Whatever occurs this weekend, West Ham will be hoping that Leeds can do them a favour against Spurs next week as they seek to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Spurs will be keeping a close eye on the final day at the London Stadium, where West Ham faces Leeds in what might be a critical encounter.
