Recently, Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope has gained the reputation of being a man who is in over his head.

In a recent essay, I emphasized the growing fury among the Wildcat faithful over Pope’s failure to close in the transfer portal while also allowing Tyran Stokes, a top-ranked high school recruit, to slip through his fingers.

With all of this in mind, the besieged coach and his team of PR professionals at the University of Kentucky had the great idea to allow the Pope face the public firing squad that is social media, demonstrating an astounding lack of self-awareness.

A public Q&A session? Really?

I want to know which member of the PR department came up with the concept.

If I were advising the Pope, I would have to be extremely honest with him. “Hey, Coach! Listen, you guys crashed out in spectacular fashion in the NCAA Tournament, half of your team joined the transfer portal, and you lost a surefire NBA lottery selection to Kansas. My advice to you is to recruit and train your a–– off, then lay low for a period. “

Most people on X knew it would be a complete tragedy before even reading the questions, so they got their metaphorical popcorn ready in anticipation of the slow-motion train disaster.

Perhaps we are overreacting

I mean, it can’t be as terrible as many people on the internet had predicted, right? Surely, just a handful of trolls were removed before the genuine questions appeared.

Let’s see what the excitement was all about.

Oh, yes. It was that terrible.

I’m not kidding when I say I hardly had to scroll. Those were the first few questions that popped up when I accessed the post’s comments area.

Many X users, including Kentucky supporters and neutral viewers, have stated that they feel terrible for Pope for having to do this.

I’m not sure I agree with that attitude.

As I indicated before, Pope’s best course of action would be to lay low, roll up his sleeves, and get to work. Perhaps he might have even collaborated with the Kentucky Basketball social media team to broadcast a series of episodes detailing how سخت their offseason fitness and training regimens have been.

Anything other than sitting in front of a camera and being peppered by enraged Wildcats supporters who are drunk on bourbon and filled with sadness.

Mark Pope’s dissatisfaction continues as the beatings continue until talent acquisition improves.
