At the age of 53, former Town forward Gary Thompson passed away unexpectedly.
Thompson, who was born in Ipswich, progressed through the Blues’ youth academy and was a member of the senior squad during the team’s first stint in the Premier League in the early 1990s, but injuries prevented him from playing competitively for Town.
After representing Suffolk as a schoolboy, Thompson went on to play in non-league football locally for Felixstowe & Walton United, AFC Sudbury, Wivenhoe Town, Clacton Town, Woodbridge Town, and Whitton United.
He was previously assistant manager at Felixstowe & Walton, Ipswich Wanderers, and Hadleigh United, and he later oversaw Whitton and Tiptree United.
Lee Norfolk, his old Town teammate, was one of the people who gave him tribute.
