The Florida Gators are getting ready for their first season under new head coach Jon Sumrall. Sumrall has already been busy on the recruiting trail, securing several big-name commitments for the Gators.

According to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, those newcomers will not contribute in the 2026 season, but the club has signed a JUCO transfer in the hopes of making an immediate impact.

Cornerback Javier Jones has committed to Florida and is anticipated to enroll at the institution next week. This past season, he played at Independence Junior College and has three years of eligibility remaining. He also received an offer from UTEP and some interest from LSU. According to Gators Online’s Blake Alderman, Jones discussed his decision to attend Florida.

I’ve mostly spoke with [Director of Player Personnel] Chris Prescott, but I just began communicating with Brandon Harris three or four days ago. Coach Harris informed me that he has been fighting to bring me down here for a visit. He said they were all about working, so be prepared to work if I joined them. He told me that he believes I would be a good fit for the team,” Jones said.

Jones is Florida’s second late addition, following Jaylen Jordan, who transferred from Jacksonville University. As a result, Florida has 20 players joining the class of 2026.

Jones participated in ten games for Independence Community College, making 12 tackles and deflecting five passes. Florida begins their 2026 season on September 5 against Florida Atlantic.
