The Texas Tech Red Raiders have started to test the seas for the 2028 recruitment cycle. Despite not yet obtaining any commitments, Joey McGuire and his crew are working diligently.
Several of the class’s top players have gotten their attention, including EDGE Jalanie George. The sophomore pass rusher from Goodyear, Arizona, is 6-foot-5 and weighs 240 pounds.
He has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the cycle. Rivals Industry Rankings rate George as a five-star prospect, the top EDGE, the top player in Arizona, and the No. 4 player in the country.
The Red Raiders have a long track record of recruiting great pass rushers. In the 2027 cycle, they have secured commitments from five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney and five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster.
They want to keep the trend going. George announced on Tuesday that he had received an offer from Texas Tech.
After a wonderful chat with @Coachjacsmith, I was honored to receive my 40th D1 offer from @TexasTechFB, @AZcoachHenri, and @DEdgeFootball, according to his X post.
He is coming off a strong 2025-26 season at Desert Edge High School. In 11 games, he had 54 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 6. 5 sacks, two pass deflections, and one fumble recovery.
Despite the fact that they have two additional full years of high school, the Red Raiders are entering the fight late. George has already received offers from several major universities, including the Ole Miss Rebels, USC Trojans, Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Indiana Hoosiers.
A favorite has already emerged. According to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machines, Ole Miss presently has the highest possibility (21. 5%) of securing the pass rusher’s commitment. Texas Tech has a lot of ground to make up if it wants to come out on top.
