Florida State ended its recruiting slump earlier this week, but that was just one highlight amid a flood of failures since the spring began.
The Seminoles are having difficulty filling out their Tribe27 class, and the coaching staff is failing to attract many blue-chip candidates. For a proud brand like Florida State, mediocrity in any form is intolerable.
What’s even more humiliating is that Florida State can no longer rely on retaining local prospects.
One of the top wide receivers in the 2027 class lives approximately 15 minutes from campus. Instead of remaining in Tallahassee, the promising recruit is transferring to a rival program.
A four-star receiver from Tallahassee chooses Clemson over FSU.
On Wednesday, four-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons declared his decision to Clemson over Florida State.
Auburn, and Tennessee. Given that Simmons lives near the Seminoles, this does not reflect well on head coach Mike Norvell, especially given the current state of Florida State.
FSU wasn’t necessarily late to the party. Simmons received an offer from the Seminoles nearly two years ago and has visited several times, including twice this year.
In any case, losing an outstanding prospect with this close proximity to campus is more than unpleasant. The anguish intensifies as Simmon will not be playing just anyplace; he will be a Florida State rival for the next few years.
During his junior season at Godby High School, Simmons recorded 59 receptions for 932 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also tossed a touchdown and rushed for a score. Simmons also helped on defense, recording 25 tackles, one tackle for loss, six pass deflections, and three interceptions.
Simmons had 100+ receiving yards in three games, including a season-high nine catches for 193 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-36 defeat to Florida State University School on September 1.
According to the 247Sports Composite Ratings, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound wide receiver is the No. 106 overall prospect, No. 18 WR, and the No. 12 recruit in Florida in the 2027 class.
With Simmons out of the picture, Florida State will focus on four-star Sean Green, three-star Cam Wade, three-star Arnold Mugerwa, three-star Majay Thompson, and three-star Antwan Lockett.
