Head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama football program have won a big recruitment fight, obtaining Charles Scott, a highly regarded quarterback prospect in the Class of 2028. The three-star prospect now attends Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia, and picked the Crimson Tide over numerous major SEC and ACC schools.

BREAKING: The class of 2028 quarterback, Charles Scott, has committed to Alabama, according to On3/Rivals reporter Hunter Fawcett. “The 6’5 235 QB picked the Crimson Tide over Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Maryland. “

With Ty Simpson joining the NFL, the Alabama quarterback position is now unclear, and the Crimson Tide’s QB room is totally packed.

This offseason, redshirt junior Austin Mack and redshirt freshman Keelon Russell are projected to contend for the starting position in 2026. Mack transferred to Alabama in 2024 and served as Simpson’s main backup last season, while Russell was a 5-star 2025 recruit who ranked second in the country, trailing just Bryce Underwood.

Kalen DeBoer also has true freshman Jett Thomalla on his squad. The Nebraska native was the No. 4 quarterback in the Class of 2026. Behind that trio are true freshman 3-star recruit Tayden-Evan Kaawa, sophomore John Gazzaniga, a 2025 transfer from Eastern Illinois, and junior John Cooper.

The Crimson Tide has a pledge from the top quarterback in the Class of 2027, Elijah Haven, who hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Between now and the day Charles Scott arrives on campus in Tuscaloosa, anything might happen. However, after Scott joins the Alabama football program, it is reasonable to assume that players such as Thomalla, Haven, and maybe even Russell will remain in contention for the post.
