Jalen Brewster is possibly the most wanted prospect available right now. Brewster, a five-star defensive line prospect hailing from Cedar Hill, TX, is rated as the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The much-touted prospect pledged to Texas Tech last October, but he is keeping his options open. The Red Raiders replaced their offensive line coach during the offseason, which looks to have motivated Brewster to investigate other options.
To the pleasure of Indiana football supporters, the Hoosiers are one of the teams seeking to steal the No. 1 overall recruit from Lubbock. Curt Cignetti’s recruitment of Brewster took a significant stride ahead last weekend, when the 6’3 302-pound defensive lineman made an official trip to Bloomington.

It wasn’t Brewster’s first visit to Bloomington, as Cignetti and his team have been monitoring him for some time. In fact, Brewster visited campus numerous times last year, including on September 20, when Indiana trounced Illinois 63-10.
Brewster had the Hoosiers as a finalist before deciding to join Texas Tech last autumn, and Cignetti and his team appear to be doing everything possible to officially bring him to Bloomington.
Brewster has links to The Hoosier State, since his father played football at Ball State from 2005 to 2008 and his mother is from Indianapolis. He still has relatives in the Indianapolis region, and Cignetti intends to use that home field advantage in his flip efforts.
Indiana has made tremendous progress since Brewster committed to Texas Tech.
After his visit, Brewster told Rivals, “You can see that it’s all business. ” That’s the type of culture that Cignetti has established in Bloomington, and top recruits like Brewster are noticing.
The IU football program has made tremendous progress since Brewster committed to Texas Tech. The Hoosiers had a flawless 16-0 season, capped by a historic College Football Playoff National Championship. That sort of lineage speaks for itself.
Furthermore, Indiana just broke a program record by having eight players picked in the 2026 NFL Draft. They also had two players, quarterback Fernando Mendoza and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. , picked in the first round of the same NFL Draft for the first time.
There is still work to be done, but enticing Brewster away from Texas Tech would be a big move for Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
